Turning a sandwich press
into a product architecture.

Not styling the appearance, but resolving holding, opening, cooking and cleaning behaviours in one manufacturable system.

Design variables

We built this product architecture in 2019 by developing the handle, upper body, control surface, grill plates and grease management together. The result was manufactured in Türkiye and marketed by Arzum as the AR2060 Crusty.

Object DNA

The handle is not an accessory.
It begins the architecture.

A contact grill must remain compact, open in balance, keep the hand away from the hot body and be cleanable after use. Each decision determines the geometry of the next.

From one product to a family

The upper form did not stop at one product.

This metal upper surface, together with the thermostat and two indicators, was also used across other Arzum machines. The form we designed moved beyond the appearance of one sandwich press and became a recognisable family language that could carry across products.

Not one idea.
A systematic development programme.

The same architecture was developed day by day by changing handle, upper shell, control, plate and service decisions. These ten selected frames are only a cross-section of the iteration chain.

Handle and outer frame

We developed the handle not as an added part, but as the outer architecture carrying the product. Hand clearance, front grip, side arms and hinge relationships were tested within the same series.

Upper body and control language

The metal upper surface, thermostat and indicator layout did not remain the shell of one machine. Arzum carried this upper form into other machines, turning it into a recognisable product-family language.

Plate, flow and grease tray

We developed flat and ribbed plates, flow direction, edge geometry and the front-removable tray together. The cooking surface and cleaning action became two parts of the same system.

MODEL-1 / MODEL 3 → AR2056 Tostçu XL

Across the MODEL-1 / MODEL 3 work, we developed the wide body, dual controls, long handle, removable-plate system and grease management together. This engineering family became the manufactured Arzum AR2056 Tostçu XL.

Functional-system branch

AR2043 / AR2048 Maxi Grill

We developed the open grill, upper and lower plates, cooking tray and multi-function use as a wider cooking system. This work was carried into the Arzum AR2043 Maxi Grill and AR2048 Maxi Grill Pro product family.

Design system

Form follows the behaviour.

01

Use boundary

Hand, heated surface and opening movement are kept clearly separated.

02

Surface strategy

Calm metal panels are framed by dark polymer volumes that express touch, heat and assembly boundaries.

03

Manufacturing logic

Metal shell, polymer body, cast plates, hinge, controls and removable tray are treated as one assembly.

Method approach

Resolve expensive uncertainty
before tooling.

Making use, heat, opening, cleaning and assembly decisions visible through controlled variants makes a product not only compelling, but manufacturable and legible.
